“法国艺术家群展”被“That’s Shanghai”列入本周上海最佳展览之一。


A recurring look at what’s happening at Shanghai’s art galleries:

1. French Artists Group Exhibition

Noeli Gallery hosts their first summertime group exhibition, which features three French contemporary artists. Sebastien Osswald (pictured above) creates eye-catching portraits using plaid fabric rather than canvas. Madcap duo *LLND mixes sound and visuals in thrilling and unique multi-media works. Clara Feder pays tribute to Shanghai with her Light Travelers series.

2. Du Zhenjun: Babel World

The Shanghai-born artist mixes his recent photography series with his early multimedia work for this vision of post-dystopian ruins. It’s look at globalization gone bad is inspired by the Tower of Babel story in the Book of Genesis.

3. Yin Zhengzho: Shanghai Hai Pai

Inspired by his hometown’s ‘Golden Era’ of the 1920s and 30s, renowned artist Yin Zhengzhou celebrates Shanghai’s Hai Pai legacy. The oil paintings evoke scenes from that period while providing an intriguing counterpoint to Shanghai today. It is currently being showcased at the Lobby of the Mandarin Oriental Executive Apartments but will be relocated to the lower ground level arcade adjacent to the Zest Restaurant.

4. Sol LeWitt and Lu Daode: Qiuzhuang Project

For a year and a half, Li Mu recruited eight artists to reproduce and exhibition 10 important pieces of art work from the Van Abbemuseum in the Netherlands in his village hometown. The Qiuzhuang Project provided the opportunity for locals to be immersed in this new environment of art. This exhibition focuses on the collaboration between the village’s oldest painter Lu Daode and Sol LeWitt with video interviews and recordings of the process displayed.

5. Integrating Western Techniques with a Chinese Touch – 115th anniversary of the birth of Guan Liang

Born in Panyu, Guangdong Province, Guan Liang soaked in lessons learned from European modern giants like Monet, Van Gough and Picasso while studying in Japan. He moved to Shanghai, learning Chinese painting and developing his signature style that bridged both worlds. Gaun is credited for introducing many Western modern painting concepts to Chinese ink painting. Long Museum West Bund pays tribute by featuring more than 200 of his pieces.

6. Love in the Park

MoCA Pavilion in collaboration with Ray Art Center and artists Wu Jianyin, Xu Jie and Wei Bozhi pays tribute to the role that parks play in Shanghai. This project is split into two sections. ‘Free Wedding Photo Shooting’ examines the evolution of the city through twenty years of wedding photography. ‘Blind Date’ artistically recreates the famed Matchmaking corner in People’s Park.
