INTERVIEW WITH “BEYOND ABSTRACT” GROUP EXHIBITION

Dorota Bednarek

1. What does your inspiration come from for your artwork?
Dorota: My inspiration comes from life around us: the beauty of our universe, which is everywhere around us, but we no longer see it, because our modern life goes too fast;the beauty of nature, the amazing immensity of sea and dazzling reflections from sunlight.

2. What material do you choose to create your art and why?
Dorota: I am using matter to create my art. Everything around us is matter (materialised energy). I am interested in the diversity of colors, shapes, structures. The materials that I find or the matter I made outside canvas are bound to my inspiration and to the subject that I am speaking about.
In my art on the theme of oceans, I use everything that reflects light, such as crystals, salt crystals, glass, minerals, metals, but also concretes, resins and paper, in order to give the impression of sparkling visual effect of water.

1. As I know, you keep using portrait for life in France instead of taking photographs. It seems spending much more time with a much higher cost. Why?
Maryam: Yes, I enjoy drawing with inspiration of live model. Why? Because you can turn around to observe it, to feel it.There is a real atmosphere with light and shadow
to express themselves, and it is live!Drawing from a photograph only, is unable to offer me that. As it is plain without any emotions. There is a lack of direct human contact.
I need this emotion to create my artwork.

2. We can find the spirit of post impressionism in your paintings. Does impressionism influence your art creation?
Maryam: I have been drawing and painting for long enough. Like all beginners, I started with learning techniques, like a musician practice routine. But at one point, you need to push the boundaries and escape to create your own world without forgetting your techniques.
It is not easy and takes many years to do so. I observed many masters and great artists, with comparison of their very first art pieces to the latest one… many years have passed to reach this stage. I hope I also have time to do so.

1.What is the most impressive experience you had when you were living in Shanghai? Does it influence your art creation?
Maud:  The biggest experience living in Shanghai is for me first of all to have my second daughter there. Secondly meeting new people and nationalities, the third and most important: Finding myself. I needed at that point to get a break and get a way from a “normal day in Denmark”. It was my Escape, my chance and today I really understand how important that was for me. It’s not starting from the beginning again, because I’m not that kind of person. I never run, I stay and fight but sometimes you have to see it from another angle. It’s all about looking deeper inside myself and realize who am I and what do I want? And how can I be the best me, Yes, that influences my art creations in China but also today in Denmark. This was a breaking point for me and people who know me were impressed to “read” my artworks when I came home. “You don’t find your self in one day, but THAT one day can be your breaking point to chance the broken parts and start fixing it. It’s a process. Just like my paintings”
Of cause it influences my paintings, I am my paintings, and without painting I’m not me. I am an artist, I’ve been that since I was born. I express my self that way and I hope people will open up and feel them self in my paintings in their own way.

2.Some Chinese viewers find difficulties to understand your artworks, do you have any tips for them to understand better about your works?
Maud: Look deeper. Not at the actually painting, but behind it. It’s a puzzle, but a sensitive one. My paintings are always happy, because I am a happy person – but with a suitcase full of “crap”. I want to make people happy, because everyone deserves it, but to understand that life is tough, and we have to make sacrifices and tuff decisions and make our own choices. No one else can do it. Get up and do what you want and be happy while you are here. And be proud of your achievements. Make a choice – your choice – and Believe in it! Feel it!
